Hiring guide

How to choose a Christmas light installer in Portland, Lake Oswego and West Linn

Ask first, then hire.

Choose a Christmas light installer who is insured, hangs lights with clips only and gives you one firm price in writing, with your install date in writing too. The price should include repairs all season and January takedown, and outages should be fixed within a set time. Ask to see a design of your house before you pay.

The checklist

Eight questions to ask before you hire.

Every installer looks good in a photo. These questions show what you will actually get, and what it will cost, from November to January. Here is each one, with how we answer it.

  • Are they insured?Ask for general liability insurance before anyone climbs your roof. We are fully insured, from the first ladder to the last clip.
  • How do they attach the lights?Nails and staples leave holes in gutters and trim. We hang commercial-grade lights with clips only, and if anything is damaged, we fix it at our own cost.
  • Is the price firm and in writing?A range or an hourly rate can grow. We give you one firm price for your home, in writing, held for three seasons. Most homes start at $999.
  • Are repairs, takedown and storage included? Some prices cover the install only. Ours includes any repair all season, January takedown and storage.
  • How fast are outages fixed?Rain and wind are part of a Portland December. Ask for a response time. Ours is by the next evening, all season.
  • Is your install date in writing?December fills up. Your install date is on your estimate the day you book.
  • Can you see the design before you pay?You should know the look before you commit. Send your address, and we text you a mockup of your home lit, with a firm price, the same day.
  • Who do you call if something goes wrong? We are local and owner-operated. Trent answers (503) 714-5120, by call or text.

Good to know

Hiring a Christmas light installer.

Can you pay someone to put Christmas lights up?

Yes. A professional installer designs the display, hangs the lights, keeps them lit all season and takes them down in January. With us, the lights are ours and leased to you for the season, so there is nothing to buy, store or untangle, and no ladder for you to climb.

How do professionals install Christmas lights?

We design around your home’s rooflines, peaks and trees, starting from your address. On install day we hang commercial-grade bulbs with clips along the gutters, shingles and peaks, with no nails or staples, then text you a night photo. More on roofline lights ↗

Are permanent Christmas lights worth it?

Permanent lights mount along your roofline once and stay up all year, ready for every holiday. Seasonal lights go up in November and come down in January, with nothing left on the house. Permanent lights suit homes that want lights year-round. We will offer permanent holiday lighting starting in 2027; this season we install seasonal lights.

What should I ask a Christmas light installer before hiring?

Ask whether they are insured, how the lights are attached, whether the price is firm and in writing, whether repairs and takedown are included, how fast outages are fixed and when your install date is. We answer each one in writing: fully insured, clips only, one firm price and outages fixed by the next evening.

Can you pay someone to put Christmas lights up?

Yes. A professional installer designs the display, hangs the lights, keeps them lit all season and takes them down in January. With Portland Christmas Lighting, most homes start at $999, and that price includes the lights, installation, repairs, takedown and storage, so there is nothing for you to buy or climb a ladder for.

How do professionals install Christmas lights?

We design around your rooflines, peaks and trees, starting from your address. Then we hang commercial-grade lights with clips along the gutters, shingles and peaks, with no nails or staples. The ladder work is ours, outages are fixed by the next evening all season, and in January everything comes down cleanly.

Are permanent Christmas lights worth it?

They suit homes that want lights for every holiday, all year. Permanent lights mount along your roofline once and stay up, while seasonal lights go up in November and come down in January, with nothing left on the house. We start permanent lighting in 2027 and install seasonal lights this year.

What if I don’t love the design?

Tell us. Our Standard is love it, or we make it right: if anything isn’t what you pictured, we fix it free. You also get a mockup of your home lit, with a firm price, the same day you send your address, so you know the look before you book.
